Love XO

Hi Everyone! I’m excited to share a mixed media card that I created for Simon Says Stamp Challenge Monday Challenge Blog, Love is in the Air. This card is a collection of some of my favorite items from this month’s SSS card kit with awesome Tim Holtz products thrown in for extra artsy fun.

I began by tearing a piece of the card kit paper and then distressed the edges. Next I lightly painted over the whole panel with antique linen Distress Paint. Then I used gelatos to soften the whole look.

I added these swirls with candied Apple DI with a Folk Art stencil, but they disappeared when I painted over them with the crackle DP.

I added the XOXOXO stickers from the kit, and stenciled using the Tim Holtz Hearts stencil with Ranger transparent gloss texture paste colored with candied apple Distress Ink. After this dried, I painted a very thick coat of Distress Crackle paint over the panel. Finally the crackle dried, and I was able to add candied apple DI around the edges with a blender.

I used the red ink and black soot around the edges of TH journaling ticket, and then added the “Love” stickers from the kit.

It helps to use a straight edge as a guide when “tearing” paper that needs to follow certain parameters.

I tore a piece of gauze DCWV cardstock, and colored the edges with black soot DI. Next I colored four silver brads with a black Copic marker, and used these to connect the guaze and top panel together. I added a piece of black craft foam between the card base and top panels for added dimension, and finally added the kit heart stickers and the TH arrow.

So what do you think about this mixed media card? Do you love it? I think I do! Thanks again for stopping by! XOXOXO!

  1. You are also a creative genius! Oh my gosh! i love this card and all of the wonderful things you put into it and how well you tied them all together. wow. i had a question regarding the gauze card stock that you used. i have some cheese cloth. do you think i could get a similar look by dying it with a stain and then gluing it to a piece of heavy card stock? maybe i could glue it and then stain it (maybe a distress stain) ….. i really love this card.

    1. I think that sounds like a great idea! The only problem I see with gluing first is that many glues are water-based and will react with the Distress Stain. I might try staining or painting first and then adhere to your cardstock. Burlap would give great texture and I bet would stain well too. We should try all of this! Let me know how yours turns out!
