Hi Everyone! I’m happy to be back with not one, but three, cards I made using one of my favorite stamp sets from one of my favorite companies…Beautiful Day from Altenew! Now, I have to tell you that I saw some cards the wonderfully talented Jennifer McGuire made a few weeks ago using this same stamp and similar embossing on vellum, and I knew that I had to try it too. (Check out Jennifer’s cards here.) I think the embossed vellum looks so feminine and pretty, and I thought I would share my versions with you.
I began by softly blending Cotton Candy Altenew Crisp Ink on one Neenah cardstock panel. Next I die cut three peonies from sticky notes to use as masks. Then I stamped the layered peony using Cotton Candy, Coral Berry, and Ruby Red inks . I masked the first peony before stamping the peonies on each side.
Finally, I masked all of the peonies before stamping the leaves and small branches with Frayed Leaf and Forest Glades inks.
I lightly taped a couple of spots on the panel so that the vellum would stay in place, and then used my anti-static tool to cover the vellum. I used VersaMark Ink and Ranger Silver Pearl Embossing Powder with the outline and sentiment stamps. I adore the Silver Pearl Embossing Powder! It looks exactly the way you would expect from the name. So pretty! Don’t you agree?
Finally, I added silver washi tape on the front of the card, tied a bow with silver floss over the vellum panel, and glued a foam panel to the back of the flower panel before adhering everything to the card base.
I followed the same steps to create the blue peony card using Caribbean Sky, Persian Blue, and Sapphire inks. As you can see, I only stamped one peony, but added more branches and leaves. I thought this card would look pretty on panels of Shimmering Black Pearl and Silver Starlight Crafter’s Companion cardstock.
The final card is a little different in that I added a Painted Butterfly from Altenew using Dusk and Desert Night inks and did not emboss. The flower inks are Buttercream, Mango Smoothie, and Warm Sunshine. I used a white embroidery floss that is a little thicker than usual, and it has a slight sheen to the cotton threads that I like. The background panels are Shimmering White Pearl from Crafter’s Companion and a heavy yellow cardstock from Simon Says Stamp. I like this card the way it is, but I don’t think it catches your eye the way the embossed cards do.
Well, there you have it! Three new cards for my stash inspired by the fabulous Jennifer McGuire. What do you think? Don’t you love the Silver Pearl Embossing Powder paired with the Altenew stamps? Thanks for stopping by. Love and crafty hugs!
Erin

Absolutely stunning! My favorite is the blue rose from Beautiful Day. Thank you so much for explaining how you made these. I’ve tried coloring on the back of vellum, and I wasn’t completely happy with my results. This is a wonderful alternative.
