Hi Everyone! Today I’m sharing this month’s Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2016 Technique Remix with paint resist and alcohol ink resist. I spent all day yesterday in the craft room while the hubby and boys worked on the car, and I had a blast working on these techniques.

It’s a shame that the alcohol ink resist covers the faux patina background tag, because it is so pretty. Check out Tim’s tutorial on how to create it here.

 

Check out the skeleton stamp alcohol resist! I can’t get enough of how cool this. I stocked up on a bunch of Tim’s Halloween stamps, and this technique pairs perfectly with spooky stamps. You can see Tim’s tutorial here.

I used black archival ink for the sophisticated skeleton and then coffee archival ink for all of the other accent stamps.

I wanted to use my new Halloween stencil to create the word panel with the distress paint patina effect. I used Ranger’s opaque matte texture paste on distress watercolor paper, allowed it to dry, and then covered it with a thin coat of collage medium. Next I painted it with black soot distress paint. When that dried, I used various distress crayons to re-create the faux patina effect. Finally, I added VersaMark and distress vintage photo embossing powder. Then I heated and rubbed off the excess for a grungy industrial effect.

For the idea-ology gears, I used alcohol ink for the aged patina effect. Check out my steps here. The only difference is that I did not distress these with embossing powder.

I wanted the flowers and leaves to look faded, dried, and dead. So I created my own paper with archival ink, distress spray stains, and Canson watercolor paper. The leaves and branches were created using Tim’s Kraft Core. First I used distress ink to add color and dimension to the various cardstocks, and then I cut them out on the BigShot. Next I sanded each and added more distress ink to age them.

I created the background and card base using Simon Says Stamp’s heavy black cardstock. I used Tim’s tailor background stamp with picket fence distress ink, and dried it. Next I splattered weathered wood and peacock feathers distress paint. I wanted to add a little color with the peacock feathers, but probably would try a different color if I re-created this card.

I distressed the paper and tag and inked with vintage photo, layered the panels, glued to the base, and finally sewed everything together. Can you see where my old sewing machine didn’t like working through the heavy cardstock on the Halloween panel? LOL!

All of the flowers, leaves, and metal effects were added with a glue gun. I like the instant, strong adhesion. I find that I mess things up with I use glue, and have to wait. Also, it is much stronger in holding the heavier metal pieces.

Finally, I used Tim’s brushed pewter mica spray over the entire card to soften the effect and give an ethereal look.
