Foil for Interest

Hi Everyone, and welcome back! Today I’m sharing a birthday card I created for my son who turned 17 last month. I cannot believe he has grown to be such an independent, condfident, kind, and smart young man. We are so very proud of him.

Technique: Using Artist Markers to color foil for card interest

This card was inspired (and doubles as homework) for Altenew Academy class Magical Marker Techniques taught by the talented Sara Neumann. I used Ranger/Tim Holtz Alcohol Ink Foil Tape Sheets colored with Altenew Artist Markers. I kept the background stamping monochromatic so that the colored foils would pop off of the page.

Tips:

Pull the backing off of the foil and adhere to cardstock before you color, stamp, and die cut it. I did not do this, but definitely decided this would have worked much better. The foil was tricky to place on the card, because it is thin and pesky. Also, I then would have been able to use foam tape to pop the foil from the front of the card. That would have been awesome for dimension.

I scribbled with artist markers over the foil, then stamped the triangles, and finally die cut each piece.

I used black Archival ink on the foil, but you have to stamp carefully as it will slide easily. A stamp platform would help here.

Trick:

Keep it simple so that the foil and color are the focal point. The colored cardstock plays off of the artist marker colors, but does not distract from the triangles.

So, what do you think? I’ve wanted a geometric stamp set for a while and I think this worked perfectly to create a playful, yet masculine, card. Thanks again for joining me in the craft room. Love and crafty hugs!
