Whimsy Seashell Background Stamp

Hi Everyone, and welcome back! Well, it’s finally summer in Ohio, and this weather has me dreaming of the beach. So I’m bringing it to you with some gorgeous new stamps and dies from Whimsy Stamps all inspired by the magic and beauty of the seas.

Do you ever see a stamp, die, or stencil in a release, and you just can’t get it out of your mind? That’s what happened with this Seashell Background Stamp. Seriously, I went to bed thinking about everything I could create with it. So here is the first card.

Technique: Heat emboss and watercolor on Bristol cardstock

Can you see how detailed this stamp is? It’s a large red, rubber stamp and it gives all of the fine details you can only get with red rubber.

Tips:

Use a quality watercolor or mixed media cardstock. I made the mistake of embossing several on regular cardstock first, and it won’t hold up to the rigors of heat, water, blending, etc.

I used the MISTI to stamp. (Take out the foam piece for large rubber stamps.) If you miss an area when pressing your stamp, you will be able to stamp it again with no problems.

Stamp an extra one for fussy cutting shells to color with Copic markers.

Emboss a large area on cardstock, and then die cut the sentiment. Much easier than cutting and then trying to emboss.

Trick:

Cut the background banner, and then cut another with the sentiment to place over the original. This way you have a guide to place your letters evenly and straight.

So what do you think of this beautiful new stamp? As you know, I’m crazy about background stamps! The possibilities are limitless! Love and crafty hugs!

  1. This is a beautiful beach theme card. Love the background stamp, rubber stamps are great. Amazing and one of my favorite places, the beach. Colors and embossing are perfect.

    1. Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a nice comment!! I watercolored with Ranger Distress Inks in Peacock, Tumbled Glass, Broken China, and Faded Jeans. Then I did the spritz and lift technique. Sorry that I forgot to share this in the post!

  2. Did you stamp and emboss first and then use the distress inks or the other way around? I love this stamp!

    1. Hi Joan! I always emboss first and then watercolor. After coloring, I use a dry towel to remove excess color from the embossing. I do too! Can’t wait to see what you create with it ;)-
