Season’s Greetings with Pretty Poinsettias

image

I am so excited to share my very first blog post with you! I created this Christmas card with the new Avery Elle Christmas Florals stamps and dies. I saw a beautiful tag Melania Deasy created with this set a few weeks ago, and I knew that I had to buy it.

Melania’s colors first captured my eye, but then I noticed the intricate individual poinsettias. That’s what sold me. I’d never used small dies before, and I was a little intimated when these first arrived. It’s not difficult at all though. I stamped all of the flowers, holly, and leaves first. Then I added dimension with colored pencils. Finally, I held the dies in place with photo tape to cut them out.

I am obsessed right now with Crafter’s Companion shimmering card stock. It is heavyweight and all of the colors have a lovely, pearly shimmer. I think the white and silver are the perfect background for this card. Another must have that I finally bought are the stitched fishtail flag stax dies from My Favorite Things. I used lots of foam tape to add dimension to all of the individual pieces. The finishing touches were Wink of Stella and buttercup Liquid Pearls on the poinsettias.

Let me tell you! I almost ruined the entire card with the Liquid Pearls. (And that is the story of my card-making life! I get to the very end and something starts to go wrong.) I don’t know what was going on, but I couldn’t get it to come out in perfect, pointy drops. I got my hands in it and touched the card – several times… Ugh! So this is the perfect time to post a favorite quote I found on Pinterest:

Use what talents you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best. – Henry Van Dyke

What do you think? I am soooooo thrilled with this set! I’m sure there will be several more cards and tags posted soon. I can’t wait to see your creations with this set too. Thanks so much for visiting!
