Altenew Educator’s Insta Hop

Hello Artsy Altenew Friends! Today I’m sharing a mixed media slimline card I created for today’s Instagram Hop featuring Altenew Certified Educators.

I began by cutting black watercolor cardstock to slimline size. One of my favorite mixed media techniques is to lightly use embossing ink on a small area of a background stamp, and use my hand to pat it onto the cardstock. Then I used Altenew Antique Gold Crisp embossing powder, but, before I heat set it, I used a paint brush to gently brush away the powder in areas. Next I splattered Altenew Metallic Watercolors over the panel.

After stamping and die cutting all of the florals brom Blissful Blossoms, I decided to use a black micro liner and alcohol marker to outline the images and remove the white edge for a seamless look on the black background.

I layered all of the florals over a rectangular foiled frame using foam squares, and decided to add some sparkle with Stickles. I die cut several Thanks sentiments from black cardstock and glued them all together before adding the foiled sentiment. Finally I layered everything over a black card base, fun foam, and Altenew Deep Iris cardstock.

So what do you think about this mixed media slimline card? I adore the background and the mixed media effects. I have to say that if I re-created this card, I would use more contrasting ink colors for the layered florals or add more detail using artist markers. Once I added them to the dramatic background, I think some of their detail was lost. However, I do love this card, and I hope you do too. Make sure you head over to Instagram and hop along with all of the educators to see their gorgeous cards! Love and artsy hugs!

Erin
