Vellum Die Cuts

Hi Everyone and welcome back! I’ve been MIA the last couple of weeks, because it’s back to school time and it has been crazy busy around here. Now that the kids are settled into their new routines, hopefully I will have more time in the craft room.

Today I’m sharing one of my favorite, yet simple, techniques: Adding vellum die cuts to cards. I love how it softens the whole effect! Vellum does that by the nature of the material, but I like that foliage die cuts give it an organic feel as well. What do you think?

I began by using Hero Arts white pigment ink and stamped the Whimsy Stamps Cherry Blossom Background using my MISTI on dark blue cardstock. (Click HERE for another card I created using this beautiful background stamp.) Then I heat embossed the stamped image with Ranger silver pearl embossing powder. Finally, I used a couple of Prismacolor Pencils to add a little color for interest.

Next I heat embossed the Cherry Blossom Background on white cardstock with VersaMark and the silver pearl using the MISTI so that the two backgrounds would align when cut and adhered to the card base. It’s difficult to see in the pictures, but this is so pretty in person! Can you see it? (I darkened the image a little here to help the white-on-white embossing be more noticeable.)

Then I die cut the leaves from the Peony Flower Dies and stems from Leaf Foliage 2. The sentiment and die cut are from the Happy Sayings set, and I think this is such a cute combination. I see myself using this set often!

Finally, I adhered the foliage, layered the blue panel with craft foam, and added more dimension to the sentiment with foam dots. The last touch was to add Wink of Stella to the vellum leaves for a little sparkle.
