Hi Everyone, and welcome back to my craft room! This is my favorite week of the month; That’s right. It’s Whimsy Stamps‘ Release Week! Today I’m sharing a card created using the new Howling Night stamp set, and, oh my, it is awesome! I had a blast creating this card.
I began by die cutting a circle from masking paper, and placed the negative piece over a watercolor panel. Then I stamped and fussy cut a moon from the masking paper and placed it in the circle. Next I blended Broken China, Chipped Sapphire, Wilted Violet, and Black Soot Distress Inks, and then spritzed and lifted water to create the night sky. Finally, I Splattered Brushed Pewter Distress Spray Stain, and sprayed Shimmer Spritz for stars. (For further details on how to create a galaxy card, click HERE.)
Ta-Da! When you remove the masking paper you have a night sky perfectly blended in a circle on your card panel. I removed the moon mask, and stamped it again in the circle. Then I softly blended white pigment ink over the stamped moon to create a halo effect. Next I stamped the tree branches with Versafine Clair ink, and added the die cut grass using the Grass and Cloud Edger Die Set.
I tried to stamp the howling wolf onto the card, but I didn’t like how it looked stamped over the silver distress spray splatters. So I decided to stamp, fussy cut it, and adhere it onto the card. Tip: Don’t forget to outline the edge of your fussy cuts with black marker! It makes a huge difference in the final product. I use a Faber-Castell PITT black B artist pen. Can you see the difference in the above pictures? I placed the fussy cut, non-outlined wolf over the panel for you to compare. The second picture is the finished product with the outlined wolf.
Finally, I finished the card by tearing vellum, and heat embossed the sentiment in VersaFine black ink with clear embossing powder. Before adding the sentiment vellum, I gently blended Black Soot ink around the cardstock and the edges and the stamped bats. I layered the panel with craft foam over Tim Holtz idea-ology Materialize paper and black cardstock base.
So, what do you think? Are you ready for all of this month’s fabulous new products from Whimsy? Seriously, there is so much more to come! I will be back with more to share this week. Thanks again for stopping by! Love and crafty hugs!
Erin
