Hi Everyone, and welcome back to my craftroom! Today I’m sharing a galaxy card I created using the new Whimsy Stamps Galaxy Galore Background stamp. As many of you know, I couldn’t live without my Tim Holtz Distress Inks, and blending inks to create a gorgeous night sky is one of my favorite things to do on a card. This new Whimsy stamp paired with a blended ink background is a match made, well … in the stars!
Technique: Blended distress inks for a galaxy background
I began by blending picked raspberry, blueprint sketch, wilted violet, and twisted citron on a piece of Arches cold press watercolor paper randomly in splotches. Next I blended black soot around the outside and between the brighter colors. Then I went back over the colored areas to brighten them up after blending the black soot. Finally, I stamped the background using VersaMagic ink, and heat embossed it with sparkly silver embossing powder.
Tips:
You may need to repeat the blending of brighter colors layered with black soot two or three times to get the effect you like. It always helps to brighten the colors after the dark.
Usually, I make bigger swaths of one color and then smaller patches of the others for a bolder, more dramatic effect. I forgot to do that this time! (You can find other galaxy backgrounds I created HERE and HERE.)
When you create a beautiful background like this one, you don’t need to add much of anything else. I think it stands on its own, and it’s a quick and simple card!
I trimmed it with the Wavy Edgers die, added a purple panel, and twine. Finally, I stamped the Shine Bright sentiment, and ta-dah!!
