Hi Everyone, and welcome back! Today I’m sharing a card I created using Altenew Beautiful Peony stamp set from 7 Kids Crafts. I recently purchased Zig Real Brush Markers, and I’m still a beginner when it comes to watercoloring. However, I am loving the process and the beautiful effect when added to a stamped image for a card.

I began by stamping the peonies onto Inkadinkadoo masking paper, and then fussy cut them with some of the leaves. Next I stamped and masked the images onto Bristol Strathmore paper using VersaFine Clair nocturne ink. Did you know that VF Clair is a great pigment ink that resists water?

I began watercoloring by using purple Zigs. I brushed a lighter color into the shaded areas, and then added a darker color. Next I used a water brush to start adding water at the outer edges of the petal, and then moved it into the colored area. The water allows the color to flow outward on the petal.

I worked in small areas around the flowers, and allowed each petal to dry before moving back to adjacent petals. This kept the colors from one petal flowing into the next, and helped maintain shadows. To finish the leaves and flowers, I went back into the petals with the Zigs to add small brushstrokes for more color, depth, and interest.

After I added color in the background, I covered the flowers, splattered the upper half with Altenew antique silver silver ink spray, and then used a deckle rectangular die from Honeybee stamps to add an interesting border.

I die cut the hello mega die sentiment from the watercolored panel, and then cut it twice from black craft foam before adhering all of the sentiments together using Gina K. Connect glue. Next I taped the background onto a black card base, and replaced the foam-backed hello sentiment into the card to create an eclipse effect. Finally, I added jewels from Pretty Pink Posh for extra bling.
