Cover Plate Dies As Stencils

Hi Crafty Friends! I hope you and your loved ones are happy and healthy during this difficult time in our world! Please know that I’m thinking about all of you, and hope that sharing some crafty time helps bring a small smile to everyone.

I am so happy to post this pretty, purple and pink card with you today! I shared one of my favorite techniques on a Facebook live demo on Catherine Pooler’s StampNation page a couple of weeks ago, and it was so much fun. I love to use die cuts as stencils, and blend ink onto a card background. Catherine Pooler cover plate dies are perfect for this trick, and there are so many great ones to choose from in the store!

I began by die cutting the Deco Circles cover plate from white cardstock, and then softly blended purple inks primarily in the center of an A2 panel with the color fading to the edges. Catherine Pooler inks take a couple of moments to dry. So working quickly after blending the ink, I removed the stencil, and brushed Ranger Perfect Pearls over the ink for a beautiful soft, shimmery look.

I trimmed the panel to 3.75″ x 5.5″, and die cut the beautiful word die in black layered over white cardstock. Next I stamped flowers from the So Happy Sentiments stamp set, and die cut the stamped images. Then I used CP ink direct to paper, and added Perfect Pearls for a purple border over the black card base. (I’m so sorry, but I forgot to record exactly the colors I used for this card. Rookie move; I know!) Finally I used lots of foam tape for dimension, layered the background panels, adhered everything, and added Tonic Nuvo Drops to finish.

So, what do you think? Have you tried this simple, yet oh-so-lovely ink blending technique with a die cut stencil? If you need some beautiful cover plates to add to your collection, check out the Catherine Pooler store! Love and crafty hugs!
