Stunning Cosmos for Mother’s Day

Hi Everyone! Today I’m sharing homework for Altenew Academy class, With A Twist, taught by Therese Calvird. Therese shares a card technique she calls ‘faux embossing with die cuts’, and I applied that technique for this Mother’s Day card using Altenew’s Stunning Cosmos.

Technique: Adhere stamped die cuts for an embossed look

This card was fairly simple to create. I stamped and die cut the Stunning Cosmos flowers using Cherry Blossom pink inks and glued them onto a cardstock panel. I allowed the die cuts to flow off the edge of the card base for added interest. I finished it with another panel and the Mother’s Day sentiment.

Tips:

Using a stamping platform like the MISTI helped me align the layers of the flowers perfectly.

Place flowers so that they move off of the card. Trim the excess by flipping your card to the backside and use large scissors to cut along the card edge.

For a perfectly embossed black sentiment, stamp in VersaFine black ink and use clear embossing powder. No little black spots to muddle a white panel!

Trick:

Adhere the die cut flowers with glue for an interesting background that looks dimensional and possibly ‘dry embossed’. Everyone wants to take a second look to see how it’s made.

What do you think? Do you like the look? Does it look faux embossed? Thank you so much for joining me today! Love and crafty hugs!

Erin
