Hi Everyone, and welcome back! I’ve got exciting things to share with you over the next few days! First of all, I am beyond excited to share that I’ve been asked to join the Whimsy Stamps’ design team!
I’ve been a big fan of Whimsy Stamps for a while now, and I am honored to share some of my top picks with you. Let me know what you think!
Today is the first day of Whimsy’s July release week, and I’ve created a card using the new Bold ABC Dies. You know how much I love alphabet dies, and I couldn’t resist pairing these with the Bunny Balloons stamp set. Don’t you think this is just so sweet and special for a new arrival?
Background: I began by building layers of salty ocean, picked raspberries, blueprint sketch, wilted violet, chipped sapphire, and black soot distress inks on Bristol watercolor paper for the starry night background. Here’s a tip: After adding the chipped sapphire (this adds depth) and the black soot, it helps to blend over with the bright colors again. Finally, I dribbled water, lifted and dabbed the excess, then splattered picket fence distress paint, and pewter and brass distress mica sprays. For more examples of dark galaxy backgrounds I’ve created, click HERE and HERE.
Bold Alphabet Dies: I die cut five sets of the words, OH BABY, from Neenah 80 lb. cardstock and glued each letter together so they would stand out on the card. Then I outlined the letters in a light blue Copic marker.
Bunny Balloons stamp set: I learned how to dab and ‘smoosh’ Copic markers to create texture in fur by the phenomenal Faye Wynn-Jones at the Whimsy Retreat last weekend, and I had to give it another try here on the bunnies. Copic colors used: E50, E51, E53, B10, B23, B24. Finally, I fussy cut the bunnies from the XPress It cardstock.
Putting it all together: I used the Shaker Maker Rectangle Die to cut the frame and stars from shimmery blue cardstock, and the Cloud Edger Die for the clouds. Finally, I layered and adhered everything to the card base with the inked background, and added the Hello Little One banner sentiment. (I think this stamp set may be discontinued. Sorry!)
There you have it! I have to say that I do think this is too cute! It’s exactly what I pictured in my mind from the beginning, and what about those alphabet dies? So glad Whimsy added this set to their line-up. Thanks so much for joining me in the craft room today! Stay tuned for more Whimsy Stamps releases this week. Love and crafty hugs!
