Whimsy July Release – Day 2

Hi Everyone, and welcome back to the second day of Whimsy Stamps’ July release week. I am just as excited to share this gorgeous new Flower Puffs background stamp as I was yesterday for the new Bold ABC dies. (You can see yesterday’s card HERE.) Also, this card has a sentiment from the new Beaucoup Bouquet stamp set. Isn’t it all so pretty? You know how much of a fanatic I am for any flower stamp, and this one was a “gotta-have-it-now”!

Technique: Copic coloring the flowers

I stamped the flower background twice on XPress It cardstock using my MISTI. I found three flowers on the stamped image that were not overlapped by others, and decided those would be the focus of my design.

Copic colors used: BG10, BG23, BG49, BG09, C1, N2, N4, N6

I trimmed the left side of the flowers, and fussy cut around the petals on the right side. Then I aligned the second stamped image and determined how much I needed to color in the grays. Again, I trimmed the left side, and fussy cut the right side petals.

Tips:

Add some quick coloring on the fussy cut petals of the shadow layer below the blue green flowers. (Does this make sense? If not, it would be white and not look shadowed.)

Lightly blend a layer of black soot distress ink, dribble and dab water droplets, and splatter with pewter distress spray ink for the background panel.

I almost always stamp with black VersaFine ink and then use clear embossing powder for the sentiment. No black residue!! Yay!

The black glitter tape adds a pop of interest!

One of my new favorite things: Faber Castell Pitt artist pen in Bold brush tip! I use this to outline all of my images now.

Ooops! How many times do we mess up at the very end our cards? Yup, I did that here with the black marker; Too late to start over.

Trick:

Pop the blue green flowers and the washi tape strip with foam. Paired with the grays of the Copics and the background, it adds lots of dimension and drama to your card! You can better see this in the picture above.
